The 2012 Freedom Seamount eruption was the first recorded underwater supervolcanic eruption in history that occurred on July 4, 2012. The effects of the eruption itself were minor, but it actually altered tectonic forces throughout the region, providing the right trigger for the eruption of a volcano nearby, one very heavily populated - Bermuda itself, but not until November. Its most immediate effects were the strengthening of Tropical Storm Gordon into Category 6 Hurricane Gordon, which later slammed the coast of Plymouth, England with 500 mph winds (Category 9 hypercane).
